Managed Account FAQ

Everything you need to know about EQC's systematic strategy, account structure, fees, and how to get started.

About EQC

EQC is a systematic, rules-based investment manager. We apply a proprietary R-system to equity markets, taking positions based on clearly defined, pre-set rules rather than discretionary judgment. Our goal is asymmetric risk management: limiting downside exposure while capturing compound growth over time.

Three things set EQC apart. First, everything is rules-based — no emotional decisions, no market opinions, no deviations from the system. Second, we operate through IBKR managed accounts, meaning your capital stays in your own name and account at all times — we never hold custody. Third, our cost structure is performance-only: 15% of profits, zero monthly fees. Learn about our system →

EQC is designed for qualified investors — typically High-Net-Worth Individuals (HNWI), Family Offices, and Institutional allocators — who want systematic, rules-based exposure to equity markets without the complexity of running their own trading operation.

Accounts & Custody

Yes. You open and own your own Interactive Brokers (IBKR) account. EQC is granted limited trading authority via IBKR's managed account programme — we can execute trades on your behalf, but we cannot withdraw your funds, transfer assets, or access your capital outside of the agreed trading mandate. Your money stays in your name, in your account, at all times.

Because your capital is held in your own IBKR account, it is not at risk if EQC ceases operations. You retain full ownership and control at all times. IBKR accounts benefit from SIPC protection up to USD 500,000 (including USD 250,000 for cash). Note: SIPC covers broker insolvency, not trading losses.

Minimum investment thresholds are discussed during the qualification process. Please complete the contact form on our homepage to begin a conversation. EQC is selective about who it works with to ensure the strategy is the right fit for your goals and risk tolerance.

The Strategy & System

The R-system is a three-phase, rules-based framework. In Phase 1 (Positioning), initial positions are sized using pre-defined risk units (R-multiples) relative to account equity. In Phase 2 (DCA & Scaling), Dollar-Cost Averaging adds to positions at defined intervals if the market moves against the entry. In Phase 3 (Management), profit targets, trailing stops, and hedge triggers activate automatically — not by emotion. Full system overview →

EQC primarily operates in US equity markets, with selective exposure to equity indices and related instruments. The system monitors VIX conditions and uses macro instruments (TLT, GLD) as part of its risk management overlay.

Past performance does not guarantee future results. EQC's track record — available on the Portfolio page — shows verified historical metrics including total return, win rate, profit factor, maximum drawdown, and Sortino ratio. We target a Sortino ratio above 1.5 and maximum drawdown below 25%.

Fees & Costs

EQC charges a single performance fee of 15% on net new profits. There are no management fees, no subscription fees, and no monthly charges. A 10% security deposit is required at the start of the relationship — returned in full when the relationship ends.

The 15% performance fee applies to net new profits above a high-water mark. If the account loses value, no fee is charged until those losses are recovered and new profits are generated. This structure fully aligns EQC's incentives with yours.

Standard IBKR brokerage commissions apply to all trades in your account, paid directly to Interactive Brokers — not to EQC. IBKR is one of the lowest-cost brokers for institutional-grade trading, typically USD 0.005 per share or less.

Getting Started

The process has four steps: (1) Submit the contact form to begin a qualification conversation. (2) If EQC is a mutual fit, you receive onboarding documentation and the fee agreement. (3) You open or designate an IBKR account and grant EQC limited trading authority. (4) Once the security deposit is placed, EQC begins managing your account.

Onboarding typically takes 5–10 business days, depending on how quickly your IBKR account is verified. If you already have an IBKR account, the process can be completed in as few as 3 business days.
